Teacher of the Year nomination process

The White Bear Lake Area Educators Local #7286 is seeking nominations for Teacher of the Year in a nomination process. Please consider nominating an educator who will represent all of the dedicated teachers in our district and compete in the state-level program. Find the form online here. Nominations will be open until 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 11.

In alignment with Education Minnesota’s Minnesota Teacher of the Year program, nominations will be advanced for WBLAE members who: have a valid Minnesota teaching license; have taught for five years before nomination; and spend at least 50% of their day working directly with students.

With the unique nature of last spring, we did not name a 2020 WBLAE Teacher of the Year. The process was paused midway through due to the pandemic. To honor those educators who were nominated previously and went through the effort of answering survey questions, we will be including those individuals in this year’s candidate pool.

Once the nominees are announced, they may advance in the WBLAE Teacher of the Year selection process by submitting their responses to a series of questions regarding teaching and learning. Of those teachers aspiring to represent our district as the 2021 WBLAE Teacher of the Year, six will be chosen as finalists. All nominees and finalists will be honored at a digital event in April when the White Bear Lake Area Educators’ Teacher of the Year will be announced. A final date on that event will be announced soon.
