Embracing Community Involvement

Our students participate in a variety of community projects. Projects have included:

Diabetes Run/Walk

Sometimes held in the fall and sometimes in the spring, the Diabetes Run/Walk is part fundraiser for Diabetes research and also serves as a fitness challenge with training sessions and fitness goals.

Race for the Cure Sign up tables

Students from the ALC work at the sign up tables helping with registrations at the Mall of America, the day before the Race.

Raking for Neighbors

Each fall students from the ALC along with staff assist neighbors with raking. Flyers are distributed for neighbors to call in and make an appointment to have their yard raked. We work in as many yards as possible.

Feed My Starving Children

Several times a year, groups of students work a shift packing meals.

YUDA Bands

YUDA bands is a project to help students be able to go to school in countries with a lot of poverty, and little opportunity for education. The students are employed making YUDA bands in their country. The sale of the bands, as fundraisers in American schools also supports a sponsored child with school expenses.

Food Drives

Throughout the year the ALC participates in food drives for local food shelves.

Shoe Drives

The ALC has participated in Soles for Souls, and additional shoe and clothing drives.

Career Day

Career Day is organized by and held at the White Bear ALC. Neighboring alternative programs are invited to attend. Speakers and presenters from the community come and introduce students to education and career opportunities.

Reading Buddies

Students from the Insight program and ALC share reading and listening with elementary students at Matoska.
